The Hawaii Community College Culture Club and the Hiroshima University of Economics will host the Hiroshima Okonomiyaki Festival on Saturday to help raise funds for students to study abroad in Japan.

The free 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. event will feature authentic Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki prepared by culinary arts students and students from Hiroshima at the community college’s Manono Campus ion Hilo. Hiroshima, Japan, is famous for okonomiyaki, a savory grilled omelet.

Students from Hiroshima will also assist with an origami workshop. In addition, the festival will feature a performance by Puna Taiko.

Purchasing a $5 ticket will help students participate in a cultural study program at Hiroshima University of Economics. The Hiroshima-Hawaii Cultural Exchange Project at HUE aims to strengthen historical ties between Hiroshima and Hawaii.

Tickets can be purchased at the HCC Information Center and unsold tickets may be available at the event.
